Become a grant reviewer

We’re looking for individuals from diverse backgrounds and regions of Minnesota who are interested in serving as reviewers. We want to include a wide variety of perspectives and experiences to inform the grant-making process.

Reviewers must reside in Minnesota or a bordering state to be eligible.

Reviewers may include community members, subject matter experts, teachers or educators, state and local government employees, crime victim advocates, youth workers and law enforcement officers.

if you are selected as a grant reviewer, you will:

• Participate in a required training about reviewing funding proposals (approximately 90 minutes)
• Receive around six proposals and accompanying materials (approximately 60 minutes for each proposal)
• Participate in a virtual review group meeting (three hours)
  • Actively engage in a discussion about the proposals and make funding recommendations with three to four other reviewers

Note: It is imperative that reviewers keep all applications and comments confidential. Applications are not considered public information until grants are awarded.

If you are selected as a grant reviewer, you must complete a conflict-of-interest form, declaring any conflicts with the proposals received. 

Reviewers who fully participate in the process may be eligible for an honorarium if funding allows.

In order to receive the honorarium, you must register as a vendor in SWIFT, the State of Minnesota’s online accounting system, and sign a contract.
