Direct deposit to checking or savings account

To sign up for direct deposit to a checking or savings account in a bank, savings and loan, or credit union, complete the Direct Deposit Authorization Form (PDF).

• Choose one account for direct deposit. Child support payments cannot be split between multiple accounts.
• The child support office does not charge a fee for direct deposit. Check with your financial institution to find out if it charges a fee.

If you do not sign up for direct deposit within 20 days of opening a child support case, the child support office will instruct U.S. Bank to open a stored value card account in your name.

To verify that payments have been credited to your child support case:

• Check your account on Minnesota Child Support Online
• Call the case information line or your county worker.

To verify that payments have been credited to your bank account, check with your financial institution. It may take up to two business days from the date the child support office issues the payment for the bank to credit it to your account. Weekends and state and federal holidays are not business days. As soon as the bank credits the direct deposit payment to your account, the money is available for use.

You can change direct deposit types or switch to a new checking or savings account at any time. To change:

• To a new bank, savings and loan, or credit union, complete a new Direct Deposit Authorization Form (PDF)
• From a stored value ReliaCard Visa to a checking or savings account, complete a Direct Deposit Authorization Form
• From a checking or savings account to a U.S. Bank ReliaCard® Visa card, complete a U.S. Bank ReliaCard® enrollment form (PDF).

If you move to another state, you can keep your existing direct deposit account or receive payments on a stored value card.

If your move requires you to change banks, complete a new Direct Deposit Authorization Form (PDF) or U.S. Bank ReliaCard® enrollment form (PDF).

The child support office cannot send direct deposit payments to financial institutions outside of the United States. If you have direct deposit and plan to move outside of the United States, contact your county child support worker.

In some cases, parents may not be required to use direct deposit. You may qualify for an exception if you have a:

• Physical or mental disability
• Language barrier
• Court order that requires payments be sent to a trustee or other representative payee.

You must complete the Request for Exception from Direct Deposit (PDF) form and return it to the Child Support Payment Center at the address on the form.

• Call the case information line or check Minnesota Child Support Online to find out about payments sent to your account.
• Call your financial institution if you have questions about payments being credited to your account.
