Equity is foundational to the American Indian Wellbeing (AIW) unit's mission to dismantle systemic racism and address disparities impacting Native American children, families, and Tribes. ICWA and MIFPA are critical tools in achieving this goal by establishing legal frameworks that prioritize Tribal sovereignty and cultural preservation. The AIW unit's Native American equity policy (NAEP) consultant plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing statewide strategies to reduce the overrepresentation of Native American children in child welfare. By providing cultural expertise, training, and technical assistance, the consultant empowers AIW staff and Tribes and strengthens their capacity to protect and care for their children.
