Foundational Principles

Intro

The unit was intentionally and purposefully created and is grounded in a foundational framework that includes:

  1. A greater emphasis on keeping children within their family/kin network, rather than placing them with non-relative providers.

  2. Improving practice across the child welfare continuum, including safety and prevention, placement, and permanency.

  3. Ensuring families are given opportunities to ensure the safety of their children before removing them from their homes, in instances not including egregious harm.

  4. Improved access to community-based, in-home, and individualized services for children and families.

  5. Increased community engagement and blended decision making.

  6. Resource provision for communities to deliver needed services for children and families.

  7. Targeted systemic and practice interventions based on case reviews conducted with a cultural and equity lens.

  8. Targeted data-informed practice and policy development.

  9. Collaborative systemic partnership and strategic planning.
