Building Better Tools for Our Work Together

The Department of Children, Families, and Youth (DCYF) is making updates to the Social Service Information System (SSIS) Time Entry and Contact/Activity tool. This system is an important tool that staff use to write case notes, track their time, and share important information.

Through surveys, interviews, and testing, DCYF continues to learn about the challenges facing SSIS. Slow connections, repeated data entry, and the need for better access on mobile devices are some of the issues DCYF is determined to make better.

The SSIS improvements align with the DCYF Strategic Plan, which puts children and families first and gives staff the tools they need to succeed. When technology works smoothly, staff can spend more time with families and less time fixing system issues.  These improvements also help us meet our goals of efficiency, transparency, and equity, ensuring that the tools we use every day match our agency’s values.

We believe that collaboration and transparency make our work stronger. That’s why we are creating many ways for staff to stay connected and share their ideas during this project.

Together, we are making sure our technology helps, not hinders, the important work of serving children, families, and communities across Minnesota.
