Early Childhood Family Education celebrates 50 years
The Department of Children, Youth, and Families hosted a virtual celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), which supports parents and caregivers in providing the best environment for their child’s learning and development.
About 200 individuals and groups from across the state joined the celebration. Community members, program participants and state leaders discussed the program’s impact and future.
“ECFE is one of Minnesota’s most unique and valuable contributions to early learning,” Assistant Commissioner Dianne Haulcy said. “It’s a place where caregivers come to learn, grow and connect together. It’s a place where parenting is supported and strengthened through honest conversations, practical tools and community support. It’s where children thrive through meaningful play and interactions for lifelong learning and success.”
If you missed the celebration or would like to rewatch the event, the recording is available on YouTube.
Attendees shared their hopes for the next 50 years of ECFE, including that the program can grow to serve more families, in particular underserved populations, and evolve to meet current parenting needs. Multiple people also expressed hope that ECFE, which is unique to Minnesota, would spread to other states.
