Paths to Parenthood course now available

A new nine-session interactive learning course about parenthood, designed to help young adults who have faced adverse circumstances develop a deeper understanding of the range of emotional and practical challenges that come with the decision to parent, is now available for use by schools, college classrooms, nonprofit youth agencies, and correctional institutions.

Called Paths to Parenthood, the course highlights the legal aspects of paternity and child support. It uses a dialogue-based interactive approach based in practices associated with restorative justice. It was designed and field tested by the University of Minnesota Center for Health Youth Development. Parts of the course may be particularly useful as part of personal finance or parenting classes.

The Child Support Division at DCYF supports the curriculum by periodically hosting Train the Trainor sessions, coordinating guest speakers from the child support program and providing one-on-one consultation.
