Bio

Kate Weeks is the Assistant Commissioner for the Economic Opportunity and Youth Services administration at the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families. 

  • Responsible for ensuring support and resources for children and families through anti-poverty programs, food and nutrition, and investing in Minnesota’s youth.
  • Oversees the Office of Economic Opportunity and two programs formerly with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety: the Office of Restorative Justice and the Youth Justice Office.

Weeks has more than 20 years of public service experience. She previously held positions with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, the Saint Paul City Council, the Minnesota House of Representatives, and the Minnesota
Department of Public Safety. During her tenure at the Department of Public Safety, Weeks first served as the Legislative Director and then as the Executive Director of the Minnesota Office of Justice Programs.

Weeks holds a Master of Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University and a Juris Doctor from the University of St. Thomas School of Law. She is committed to improving the well-being of youth statewide, including, but not limited to statewide investments for anti-poverty programming and to ensure food and nutrition services are available in all communities.
