Transition from C.A.R.S. to B.E.S.T. training

As of January 1, 2025, DPS has fully transitioned from C.A.R.S. training to B.E.S.T. (Basic Education for Safe Travel). The Minnesota Department of Public Safety updated its BuckleUpMN.org website to include information for caregivers, including licensed providers. On the website is a flyer about B.E.S.T. and how to complete the two-step training. There is also a tool for locating B.E.S.T. facilitators. Questions can be submitted on their Contact Us page.

B.E.S.T. training is intended to remove barriers and increase access across the state to child passenger restraint training. B.E.S.T. is comprised of two parts: online training and in-person training. The online Car Seat Basics course takes about 1 hour to complete with a 10-question quiz at the end. The in-person portion will take approximately 1 hour and function similarly to a car seat checkup.
