Intro

Mailed letters, emails and direct text messages have been sent to families with children who are eligible for SUN Bucks due to their participation in a State program. If you received one of these messages, your child is eligible for SUN Bucks. Continue reading to learn more about what to expect.

If you did not receive a direct notification from the State of Minnesota SUN Bucks program and you believe your child may be eligible through their participation in the free and reduced-price school meal program, please wait until the end of June to receive your child’s benefits. SUN Bucks Program Eligibility

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has rebranded the federal Summer Nutrition Programs as the SUN Programs to reflect the broad, bright impact they have in helping kids thrive. SUN Bucks is an income-based food support program that provides families with $120 per eligible school-aged child to help buy groceries when school is out for the summer. Eligible children are automatically enrolled in the program. There is no need to apply.

Receiving the card

The card will arrive in a plain envelope addressed to the child. Make sure your child’s name is on your mailbox. The post office might not deliver if your child is not a known resident at the address. If you have not received your child’s SUN Bucks card 45 days after receiving the Notification of Eligibility through a mailed letter, email or text message, check the SUN Bucks webpage for possible updates about the program. If there are no updates on the webpage, please submit a Help Form.

If you initially receive more than one card for your child, do not use the benefits. Fill out a Help Form as soon as possible to fix the error and to determine which card to use. If your child is mistakenly issued duplicate benefits from more than one State or Indian Tribal Organization, you must use only the benefits from the State or Indian Tribal Organization where your child completed their 2024-2025 school year. Under no circumstances may more than one benefit be used for an individual child.

How to use your child’s SUN Bucks benefits

After receiving your SUN Bucks card, please visit www.ebtedge.com or call ebtEDGE customer service at 888-997-2227 to set up your PIN. You can begin using the funds right away. You will be expected to reuse this card each summer, so please keep it in a safe place after all benefits have been used or expired. SUN Bucks benefits can be used at grocery stores, farmers markets and other authorized retailers.

Benefit expiration

Benefits expire 122 days after becoming available in your child’s account. Benefits cannot be replaced if lost, stolen or expired. Please visit www.ebtedge.com or call ebtEDGE customer service at 888-997-2227 for your child’s specific benefit availability date.

How to decline SUN Bucks benefits

If you do not want to receive SUN Bucks benefits, submit a Help Form. You will receive an emailed confirmation. Opting out for this year will not prevent you from receiving benefits in future years.

Summer Meal Sites

In addition to SUN Bucks, children under 18 years of age can also receive free meals during the summer at a summer meal site. Please download the Free Food for Kids app to find locations near you.
