What is SUN Bucks?

SUN Bucks is an income-based food support program that provides families with a one-time benefit of $120 (equal to $40 per summer month) per eligible school-aged child to help buy groceries when school is out for the summer. Complete details at dcyf.mn.gov/sun-bucks.

Receiving the SUN Bucks card

The card will arrive in a plain envelope addressed to the child within 10 days of text message and emails sent to families. Make sure your child’s name is on your mailbox. The post office might not deliver if your child is not a known resident at the address. After receiving your SUN Bucks card, visit www.ebtedge.com or call ebtEDGE customer service at 888-997-2227 to set up your PIN. Use SUN Bucks benefits at grocery stores, farmers markets and other authorized retailers.

SUN Bucks benefits are to be used on groceries for the child within 122 days

If your child lives with another caregiver during the summer, be sure to give them your child’s SUN Bucks card.

One benefit per eligible child

If you receive more than one card for your child, whether the additional card is from Minnesota, another state or Indian Tribal Organization, do not use the additional benefits. Fill out a Help Form at sebthelp.state.mn.us or call the SUN Bucks Help line immediately to correct the error. If the additional benefits are from outside Minnesota, use only the benefits sent by the State or Indian Tribal Organization where your child completed their 2025-2026 school year. Under no circumstances may more than one benefit be used for an individual child. Families ARE required to pay back any additional benefits spent over $120 per child.

Benefit Expiration

Benefits expire after 122 days after they are loaded into the account and cannot be replaced if lost, stolen, or expired. Benefits cannot be replaced if lost, stolen or expired. Please visit www.ebtedge.com or call ebtEDGE customer service at 888-997-2227 for your child’s specific benefit availability date.

If you do not want SUN Bucks benefits

Submit a Help Form at sebthelp.state.mn.us or call the SUN Bucks Help line to decline SUN Bucks benefits. Opting out for this year does not prevent your child from being eligible for benefits in future years.

Summer Meal Sites

Children under 18 years old can also receive free summer meals at a summer meal site. Download the Free Food for Kids app to find locations near you.
